Why Going to the Beach is the Most Important Thing That you Can Do Right Now

Staying inside 90% of the time, wearing a face mask without frequent breaks, (which is bad for your breathing, and blocks oxygen flow, btw) listening to, watching, and reading about COVID-19 all day, is not healthy.

While we need to stay informed about critical world issues, the most important thing that we can do right now is to take care of ourselves.

Guard your mind…Quiet the mind, and get some beach and sunshine!

The Beach-A fun, happy, healthy, natural Landform, filled with many healing properties.

Why Going to the Beach is the Most Important Thing That you Can Do Right Now

The Beach is the best natural setting to receive spiritual awareness, enlightenment, and guidance.

Along with breathing in that salty air breeze, which will put some freshness back into your lungs, other health benefits of being at the beach include;

Stress Buster and Brain Soother

Being at the beach, taps into all of your 5 senses, bringing calmness, and removing whatever is weighing you down.

Screenshot_20200821-185155.jpg

Surrounded by a ton of natural resources

Sand, seashells, algae, rocks, mud, moss, and saltwater, are all-natural healers.

Exercise

Walk, run, jog-play soccer, catch, frisbee, football, and volleyball, in the sand!

Sound Therapy!

The sounds of seagulls, along with the waves crashing on the beach, will instantly relax you.

Energy Booster

Screenshot_20200821-185201.jpg

Swimming in the ocean revitalizes, cleanses, and livens you up. (Personally speaking, the longer I swim, the more energy I gain.)

Happiness and Laughter

Have you ever seen a sad, or angry person at the beach?

The minute you touchdown, you hear the sounds of giggle and laughter, which will always rub off on you!

Vitamin D

Screenshot_20200821-201443.jpg

Once the sun hits your skin, your body starts processing Vitamin D.

Bathe in the sun, and allow your skin to absorb its warm rays!

Visit my favorite beach in Nueces Bay!

Let’s Hit the Beach!

Screenshot_20200821-235945_Photos.jpg

Your peace of mind, body, and lungs will greatly thank you!

While this summer might not be what you planned, many beaches across America have opened back up.

Please Note: The best time to visit most southern beaches, is between October and December, (after hurricane season) and between, January and early May.

Get away, take a breather, and hit the beach, to escape any stress, worry, fear, or anxieties that you may have had, or still have, due to the worldwide pandemic.

10 Things I'm Doing Right Now To Prepare For International Living

If you check out my about me page under what to expect from my blog, I stated that I will be sharing my plans for international travel. Around this time last year, while I was writing that, most of my preparations were in my head.

Now, as my living situation, plans for the future, and short and long term goals have changed, I am taking action, and will be relocating within the next few months.

I am a firm believer of planning out as much as you can, doing extensive research, and moving with a specific mission or purpose.

I’m totally against going out on a whim, with very little money, to move anywhere, nationally or internationally. That will not work for me!

I know that even with the most meticulous plans, things can, and will change.

But again, I say if you have back up plans, ( My abcdef and g plans, have never failed me) 9 times out of 10, unexpected mishaps, and expenses can be avoided, or may not set you back as far.

10 Things I’m Doing Right Now To Prepare For International Living

Screenshot_20200712-200132_Photos.jpg

1. Moving to a Less Expensive City and State

Since moving from Northern California while in my 20’s, Houston, Texas has always been my home base. I love it here! But it’s time to go.

Houston, you have been sooo good to me, and I thank you. I will be back to visit, but I must move on for good now.

Yes, I must move on to another city and state, where my expenses will be lower so that I can save more, and have the freedom to move about with fewer restrictions.

In my opinion, this is the best way to cut back on major expenses, while on your way towards traveling the world or moving internationally.

processed_20200713_170256.jpg

2. Budgeting Every. Single. Penny.

Seriously!

My personal spending is wayyyy out of control! And this is because I have gotten too comfortable….again!

When I looked at how much I could have saved (instead of splurging) just within the past 4 months, I had to put myself on a time out!

While I am proud of myself for keeping up with my personal expenses, as far as writing them down, and keeping receipts-so I at least know where my money is going, I definitely need to get rid of my impulse spending.

I am not only budgeting every single penny for my out of state move, but I also have a budget for my international travels as well.

I know exactly how much I will need to maintain my international lifestyle for 3, 6, and 12 months.

20200715_132330.jpg

3. Meditation Visualization and Manifestation

Manifestation is speaking and acting as if you already have it.

(Without doubting, because doubting ruins manifestation.)

Throughout the day, I am constantly speaking my travel plans into existence. I am not only speaking of my plans out loud but talking in my head as if it is already so.

I see myself at certain locations, (visualizing) being very specific about the region and area in which I plan to travel and live.

I am constantly looking at pictures, and images of my exact REALITY location!

I don’t want to write, or say dream location, because the word dream sounds so far away, or as if it will never happen.

The video below isn’t in my top 5, because I just discovered Mei-lan a couple of months ago. I listen to this almost every night, and feel as if I am floating.

4. Networking

I was raised in Northern California, and have always been a multi-cultured type gal-constantly hanging out and making friends with people from different countries.

I have more international friends than I do Americans! Lol!

Soooo, I have made some new contacts and friends in the country in which I will be moving to-and I have long-time friends from the countries surrounding areas.

I am still observing certain groups, and location-independent businesses, so that I can connect with the right people, who have my same vibe, mindset, and outlook on life.

5. Research

To be honest, I have been around the people and researching the continent in which I will be visiting, and then moving to for 20 years!

As you already know, the world is constantly changing and will continue to change.

I can never learn too much, so I am still researching different cultures, governments, land, houses, presidents, cost of living, and lifestyles.

On each short trip that I take locally, I always research the cost of living, see what the jobs and businesses are like, and check on the rent and buying prices for apartments and homes.

I especially take note of the disposition of the people, and customer service-are they friendly? Family-oriented? Is this a seemingly happy community?

Other questions I ask myself-

Would this be a good fit for my kids? How would I get around? How much is transportation? Is it best to get around by car, bus, taxi, or uber?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of living, relocating, and traveling to my destination country, or a certain side of town, versus living in its surrounding areas/countries?

6. Learning New Languages

How is it that my international friends know the English language so well, but I haven’t even taken the time to consistently learn their language?

So sad!

I should be fluent in many languages! I start off learning, then β€œget busy” and stop.

Now, I have to learn!

I am making it a habit to learn to read, write, and speak the languages of my friends, every time we meet-up, talk, or text.

7. Explaining The Moving Process To My Children

My kids are troopers! They all adjust to change quite well.

My oldest does not know how serious I am about my long-term destination as of yet. I am waiting to tell them in a special family meeting that I will be holding.

My long term location just got specific last month, and will greatly benefit my older and younger children, grandchildren, and my future grandchildren, whether they choose to stay or visit.

However, I am sure that they will not be too surprised-I have mentioned it to them quite a few times throughout the years.

8. Watching YouTube Videos

I have been getting a lot of great information concerning international travels on YouTube.

For the past 3 months, I have been binge-watching specific videos geared towards my destination.

(I’ve been binge-watching to the point where it is not exactly healthy on my eyes!)

One night, I stayed up until 4 am, watching videos, and taking notes. It was totally worth it!

9. Pinterest Pins

Screenshot_20200713-165211_Pinterest.jpg

Pinterest is my new obsession!

I am pinning everything that has to do with traveling- from Africa to Asia, USA, Paris, and Island excursions.

While reading a lot of blogs about my future destinations, I take handwritten notes.

I can get pretty caught up on Pinterest too!

But again, I am seriously talking about my future here, so it is well worth the time!

10. Listening To Music From a Specific Country

I am listening to music that is from my reality destination. I’m no stranger to it, but hooked on it now, more than ever!

The rhythms, and languages, always takes me to that place, lifts my mood, and makes me even more excited about my trips!

Listening to music from a specific destination in which you want to live or visit, can be used for manifestation and visualisation too.

Example: I used music to take us back to Houston, Texas while we were living on the Corpus Christi Islands.

One day, I started to feel the energy of the city of Houston really strong. I then began to get flashbacks.

I felt so excited, seeing the faces of old friends, swimming around in my head. I found myself reminiscing about where I used to go, and what I used to do…

While searching online, I discovered that I could live stream both of the Houston radio stations that I used to always listen to. Why did I do this?

It was torture!

I began missing Houston even more. I felt that I was actually there. I said out loud, β€œI’m ready to go back to Houston!”

While dancing to, and enjoying some familiar tunes, my journey from the first day that I moved to Houston, until I left, was slowly being played before my eyes.

For 3 or 4 consecutive weekends, I listened to two of my favorite radio stations in β€œH-Town”.

Okay, I thought, I got my little β€œHouston Fix”. I’m satisfied.

I moved out of that phase, and sort of forgot about it.

A few months later, without even trying, we found ourselves living back in Houston, Texas.

*Sources Of Income

What is my mission for my destination countries? What would I like to accomplish there? Who, what, when, and where do I want to invest? How will I continue to create multiple streams of income overseas?

I feel that it is crucial to keep a list of all of my business skills, trade, and talents that would be of good use in my near future destination countries.

Sacrifice

There are a lot of things that I am willing to sacrifice in order to get to my reality destinations!

Should I just homeschool my kids, and call it a day?

For the past 5 years, I have been in the position where I do not have to work in, or out of the home-or even start new businesses.

But I do anyways, because I feel that would be very unwise of me not to-for I have a greater vision that I just can't sit on, or ignore.

Top 10 Places To Immigrate To Where Racism is Not A Big Issue

The foundation of The United States of America has been built on racism and oppression.

We can get mad, cry, sign petitions, riot, loot, tell everyone to speak out, and continue to say that something needs to be, or is going to be done.

But then what?

The constant killing of unarmed African Americans continues.

It keeps happening over, and over, and over, and over again. It hasn't stopped, and it won't stop.

It’s hard to shake a strong foundation.

After years of struggling and fighting for certain types of freedom that you should already have, sometimes it's best to immigrate to a country, where you will be celebrated and accepted.

world-3000240__480.jpg

Here are the top 10 places to Immigrate to where racism is not a big issue

Side Note: Top 8 places are in no particular order.

Something important to remember: The way in which most foreigners treat you here in the states, is usually the ways of their cultural upbringing, on how they should treat others, unless they have been taken advantage of.

  1. Japan

Over the past 5 years, there has been quite a surge of African Americans migrating and starting businesses in Japan.

Unbeknownst to me, some African Americans had already been there for over 20 years.

2. The Philippines

Filipino people are said to be the most friendliest people on earth! They are huge givers, and from my experience, very loyal friends.

My cousin and I grew up with many Filipino friends in Northern, California. My cousin had even more Filipino friends than I. She speaks fluently in Tagalog, and has learned how to make Lumpia very well!

Her mother whom is my Aunt, still has close business ties with the Filipino community in her area.

3. Fiji

When I was younger, my mom had a best friend who was from Fiji. We would often go to her house, and she would come to visit us as well.

Every Friday, she would cook lamb curry for my mom. I remember that my mom used to try to get me to eat it, but as a pre-teen, I did not like the smell.

I am now in love with Chicken and Lamb Curry! Chicken Curry is one of my go to meals.

Our family spent a lot of time around my mother’s best friend, and her family of over 8 siblings.

People from Fiji are also said to be the most friendliest people on earth!

4. Canada

Another one of my mom's best friend is from Canada. She was like a big sister to my mother, and took very good care of her when my step-dad past away.

I had a Canadian couple who were Clients of mine, paying me very very well, I must say.

They had multiple businesses, and were always very professional.

Canadians are known to be friendly, respectful, organized, non-messy business minded people, with a low tolerance for lawbreakers.

5. Africa

Africa is huge! The beautiful Continent boasts 54 different countries. I am proud to have close friendships with Nigerians, Cameroons, and Kenyans, while living in Houston.

Once they know you are sincere, they will treat you like family, and go out of their way to help you when needed.

Every country and culture in Africa is unique, and has different beliefs, and traditions.

6. Central and South America

Yes, I know, it’s still a part of America, but very friendly non-racist people. My friends and co-workers from Columbia, Honduras, and El Salvador, always greet me with a kiss.

7. Cuba

Cubans are known to be happy whether they are rich or poor. Their culture is their prosperity! In the words of a Cuban man I ran into,

β€œIn my country, we are very happy.. even if we have no money. Here in America, it’s go-go-go..money-money-money-and faces like this-(he made a tight serious face.)

8. Mexico

I’ve always seem to have had a ton of neighbors from Mexico in my adult years! They have shared traditional recipes, and have helped me to speak Spanish more fluently.

9. Almost Anywhere in Asia

Asians are all about respect. For the most part, they keep to themselves. Respect them, they will respect you. Don't bother them, and they won't bother you. The end. Lol

10. France

France won me over by accepting my favorite legendary entertainer Josephine Baker!

Research!

If you are drawn to your ancestral roots, or you feel drawn to a particular culture other than your own, it would be wise to immerse yourself in their community here in the States.

We live in a big big world with many systems that differ from the United States of America.

Now may be the best time to go out and explore which one fits you and your family.

Are there any other African American friendly continents and countries that you would like to add to the list?

5 Reasons Why Extended Stay America Has Been Able To Remain Open During Covid-19

During my last stay at Extended Stay America, all of the staff went above and beyond to make sure that I was well accommodated for in every way.

They left such a great impression on me, that I wanted to make them my second home, while traveling within the US.

As I observed their uniqueness, and what set them apart from other extended stay services, I also wanted to start recommending them to those who read and follow my blog.

Extended Stay America has been able to provide a whole new standard in hotel stays by offering long-term, transitional, and emergency stays at discounted rates.

Extended Stay America’s President and Chief Executive Officer Bruce Haase, commented,

β€œI am proud of our Company’s performance during this period of pandemic and economic uncertainty. Thanks to the hard work of our nearly 8,000 employees and our franchisee partners every single Extended Stay America hotel has remained open through the pandemic, we have maintained relatively healthy overall occupancy levels, and we have not been forced to enact any wide-spread furloughs or staff reductions as seen by others in the industry.  Our property teams have done a remarkable job keeping their colleagues and our guests safe while continuing to provide an essential service for their communities and I’d like to thank them for all their hard work.”

Mr. Haase continued, β€œMarch and April saw the highest RevPAR Index scores for STAY in the Company’s history by a wide margin.  We believe that our positive RevPAR performance relative to the industry during this difficult time period demonstrates the resiliency of our extended stay business model and the unique characteristics of our business compared to traditional transient lodging brands.  We are also pleased to see improved RevPAR and occupancy trends during the last few weeks compared to earlier in the nationwide response to the virus.  We believe the Company is in a strong financial position to navigate through this crisis and well positioned as the economy reopens. Source-GlobeNewswire

Here are 5 reasons why all 634 Extended Stay America Hotels has been able to remain open, without much of a drop in occupancy during COVID-19

  1. They provide special safety training for their employees.

  2. Installed transparent shields at all front desks.

  3. Provides gloves, masks, and other protective equipment to all employees.

  4. Expanded their cleaning and disinfectant practices by making sure that all computers, lobby areas, credit card readers, company vans, handles, elevator buttons, and all other commonly touched items are regularly disinfected.

  5. Provides Guest with more choices as to how Housekeeping cleans their room.

Extended Stay America is set up for temporary housing with full size kitchens, free wi-fi, cable, and suites that are larger than the average size hotel.

Because of their convenient and comfortable amenities, you will always be able to limit your contact with people, by not having to continue to go in and out of your room on a daily.

I am an affiliate of Extended Stay America. This means that if you click on the link above and book a stay, I may receive a commission.

My 3 Night Stay at Extended Stay America-Little Rock, Arkansas

It has been a few years since I have stayed at an Extended Stay America!

I was so very pleased with their upgraded services, rooms, and perks, that I thought that I would write a review sharing my wonderful 3 night stay experience.

Logopit_1583616443793.jpg

I booked my 3 night stay at Extended Stay America online about 5 days in advance.

I was about to confirm my reservations, and noticed that they had a free rewards program called Extended Perks.

So I signed up, and received 20% off!

20200226_112847.jpg

2 hours before arrival, I called the front desk to let them know that I would be a little late.

I received an excellent over the phone response, greeting, and service from the representative at the front desk-Anwar.

After I checked in, he gave me a very thorough explanation of everything that I would need to know for my stay.

This information included a grab and go breakfast everyday from 6am-9am, location of the laundry facilities, visitor rules, and a friendly reminder to either extend my stay, or check out on time.

I was almost positive that I was going to be up and out for grab and go breakfast, but I was so comfortable and in β€œme time” mode, that I didn’t even partake in it!

My Three Night Stay at Extended Stay America-Little Rock, Arkansas

Update: The West Little Rock, Arkansas Extended Stay is no longer at this location.

My main purpose of coming to Little Rock, Arkansas was to get some β€œme time” without my younger two kids, and to spend a little time with my older son on his 21st Birthday.

21st Birthday??

(Yes, I know at times I look and act very young! I’ve always had a baby face. My only concern with looking so young, is that when the time comes for my Senior Discounts, they will think that I am lying about my age!)

Extended Stay America did not disappoint!

I booked a Queen Bed Studio Suite.

Rest and Relaxation

Snapchat-401155398.jpg

Although I have the remote, my time at Extended Stay America really looked like this:

processed_20200225_082539.jpg

The hotel was basically quiet-most guests kept to themselves, which made my visit peaceful and non intrusive.

*Quiet hours start at around 10:00pm. They have a courtesy sign asking that you respect other guests, by keeping the noise level down after this time.

I like this rule!

Snapchat-402705020.jpg

The only β€œalarming”thing is that a very loud emergency alarm went off.

I waited a little while, then called the front desk. I was assured that it was a false alarm, and that they were working on shutting it off.

Moments later, it was taken care of.

processed_20200225_143735.jpg

I stayed at the end of the 2nd floor, which provided me with a scenic view of Arkansas beautiful tall trees.

I was also able to see a cute little red robin, and wake up to some unfamiliar and unique bird callings!

I got on my laptop for a bit to edit and publish my last blog post!

Screenshot_20200225-145341_Video Player.jpg

While tap tap tapping away, I preferred blogging at the breakfast nook area, over the actual spot that they had set up for the computer desk and chairs.

Walking Around Extended Stay America Hotel

The only time I left my room was to get something to drink, and to walk my daughters out to their cars, after they came to see me the first 2 nights.

Note: If you need any dishes, pots, or pans, you will need to ask for them at the front desk.

(The last time I stayed at an Extended Stay America, kitchenware was available for guests in and on top of the cabinets.)

Also, there are only 2 treadmills in the gym, and the vending machines are inside of the laundry room, along with plenty of free Arkansas traveling pamphlets.

Leaving Extended Stay America

I received a note on my door which I never would have noticed if housekeeping wouldn't have knocked, along with a courtesy phone call 30 minutes before check out.

So what do I do before I check out?

Checking Out

processed_20200226_113536.jpg

While at the front desk, upon checking out, housekeeping will go and search the room to make sure that there are no damages.

After a brief wait, she will come back and let the front desk concierge know whether or not the room is in good condition.

If there are no damages incurred, you will get your deposit back.

Note: There is a $100.00 security deposit due upon check in. You can pay cash, and immediately get it back after check out, or charge on your debit or credit card, which may take up to 7 days to get back.

Conveniently across the street, there are a few eateries, a gas station, and a Starbucks.

Making a left at this Extended Stay America sign, and another left at the stop light on S. Shackleford Rd, you will go up a steep hill, and run into all of your shopping centers, restaurants, and fast food chains.

S. Shackleford seems to be one of Little Rock’s major streets, and is the perfect cruising strip for first time visitors-You will enjoy the lively day and night scenic environment, well to do neighborhoods and business buildings, along with a glimpse of Little Rock’s houses on the hill.(My favorite!)

In the Swamps of San Antonio

Screenshot_20200102-095826_Photos.jpg

β€œShe had wandered, without rule or guidance, into a moral wilderness. Her intellect and heart had their home, as it were, in desert places, where she roamed as freely as the wild Indian in his woods.

Nathaniel Hawthorne, The Scarlet Letter

Here I go again, wandering in the woods! Ohhh how I love to wander!

But this particular area, in San Antonio, Texas, had a totally different vibe from the last 2 woods that I had wandered off into.

Conway Arkansas, A Hidden Gem

When Your Ancestors Call You Answer

We found out by a local woman, that an alligator coming from this very same park, used to roam around the nearby neighborhood once upon a time.

20191221_173341 (1).jpg

After hearing the story of how her father encountered the alligator in his backyard, I still wanted to capture a few photos for my photography gallery.

There was this one man who was standing in the water fishing very comfortably, but I took heed to my own instincts!

As I walked down the small hill towards the swampy waters, my inner voice told me 3 things:

  1. Continue to look down as you walk, there may be snakes or other unknown critters or creatures.

  2. Don’t get too close to the water.

  3. Make your pictures short and sweet, and then get out of here!

Conway, Arkansas - A Hidden Gem

Sometimes we Americans think that we know everything that there is to know about the United States.

Travelers from within and without, long to visit iconic places in California, New York, Chicago, and Florida.

These of course are all a must see! But I am discovering that there is so much more than meets the eye here in the United States!

Screenshot_20191011-142652_Photos.jpg

β€œWho even wants to go to Honky-Tonk Arkansas anyways?”

When my ex and I made the decision to co-parent after I wanted a divorce, he decided to go back to the place where he was born and raised… Arkansas!

While we were married, I was homeschooling my now college-age children.

As I was getting ready to rejoin the workforce, we were both very concerned about how engaged and involved the public school teachers would be.

He was against raising our children in California, and I wasn’t sold on the school system in Houston, Texas.

Although I was feeling some type of way about Arkansas, after testing out the school system in a very small town that only had 1 High School and 1 Elementary School, I was highly impressed with the principle and teachers.

I felt as if my children would be closely monitored and protected, in what seemed to be a safe, close-knit environment and community.

Also, I could never deny how friendly the people were, and how very helpful, quick, and on point their law enforcement was.

Screenshot_20191011-142537_Photos.jpg

I have been traveling from Houston to Arkansas for over 10 years!

Technically speaking, Arkansas and Texas are joined together like twins, thus the city Texarkana!

Throughout the years, when my children were younger, while picking them up, and dropping them off, I never really spent more than a week there.

( Me-”I’m just getting my kids, and then I’m outta here!”)

Some small southern states rarely change, but this place that they call β€œThe Natural State” is comin’ up, catchin’ up, and building up!

Let's Talk Conway!

processed_20191007_155050.jpg

Conway, Arkansas is approximately 45 minutes away from the Capital Little Rock.

Nicknamed the β€œCity of Colleges”, Conway is a Suburban City with a vibrant up tempo vibe-It doesn’t even feel like you are in the South!

processed_20191007_160415.jpg

I had no idea that Conway existed until my oldest daughter decided to go to college there.

Upon my first visit 5 years ago, I was amazed at how modern and new the city looked!

The People are beyond friendly!

A few years ago, I was at the Greyhound sub-station on Oak St, waiting for my daughter to pick me up.

(I no longer drive, or catch The Greyhound bus to Arkansas -I'm into Megabus now!)

As customers went in and out, everyone greeted me while I was sitting at the booth.

Minutes later, some ladies pulled up in a truck full of furniture in the back, and asked if I needed a ride!

I don't know if this is common in Conway, but on my last visit, while waiting on my Uber to arrive in front of a store, a mother of 3 (who had come out of the store shortly after us) asked if I needed a ride.

She seemed genuinely concerned. I guess somehow it was apparent that I wasn't from there!

But no matter what, I always politely say no thank you, and never accept the friendly offers.

processed_20191007_155855.jpg

After traveling to Conway a few times, I figured out that Oak Street is like the Hub of the city.

On Oak Street, you will find all of the basic essentials that you would want or need for your trip.

Traveling down Oak Street, and directly off of it, is Starbucks, Waffle House, I-Hop, Gas Stations, a Sandwich Shop, Mexican Restaurants, Walmart, and plenty of hotels, all within walking distance of each other.

Donahue Avenue

Cruising down Donahue Avenue-the other long major street in Conway, is where you will somewhat feel as though you are on the West Coast.

Off of Donahue, you will run into The College District, and a bunch of super nice suburban homes, nestled in quiet neighborhoods.

The College District is by far my favorite area to cruise down.

Unfortunately, I was unable to take pictures in the daytime during this trip, but I promise that it will be one of the first areas in Conway that I photograph when I go back!

Tucker Creek Walking Trail

One of the first parks my oldest daughter introduced us to is Tucker Creek Walking Trail.

This is a very peaceful park that is perfect for walking, jogging, riding your bike, and oh so picturesque for nature and photography lovers.

NOTE:You can rent a bicycle at this park through Conway’s Bike Share Program. We didn't notice the sign, or the row of bicycles, until we were leaving.

Cadron Settlement Park

IMG_20191014_221712_572.jpg

I was looking for another place to take pictures for my photography gallery, so my oldest daughter decided to take us to Cadron Settlement Park.

When we pulled up, I was like, β€œReally?” β€œIt’s almost dark out here!” But she perfectly navigates and leads us through this enchanted park right before sunset, and then back to the car in the pitch-dark with ease.

As the sun transitioned, and then finally set, I was able to capture all of it's beautiful colors!

We had to be extra careful with small children at Cadron Settlement Park!

I tightly held onto my 6 and 10 year old hands as we approached the cliff.

While taking pictures, I made them stand by their big sisters beside a huge tree that was several feet away!

If my oldest were not there, I would not have taken my youngest, as in my opinion, this park is for responsible teens and adults.

processed_20191014_184033.jpg

I later found out that there is a path that leads down to the cliff, and that people actually swim here!

No Public Bus Transportation??

The only downside while in Conway, is that the city does not have public bus transportation.

With a thriving population of college students, why are there no city buses??

Although another form of city transportation would be competitive for Yellow Cab, I just had to mention to the driver about how nice it would be for Conway to have a city bus.

Laughing and agreeing with me about the competition, my Lady Driver explained to me how the city was not structured or engineered for public bus transportation.

UBER

Uber seems to have just gotten popular in Conway. If you try to catch an Uber in a certain area, the app may say no cars available. ( It happened to me twice.)

I Love Conway's Yellow Cab Service

Conway’s Yellow Cab service is an excellent backup, with excellent customer service, drivers, and excellent prices. I highly recommend using if you are not renting, or if there are no drivers available for Uber.

If you are concerned about safety issues, you may want to make this your first option, as there is a direct number where you can promptly get a hold of someone at Conway’s Yellow Cab Service.

The Teahouse Tapioca & Tea China Town Houston, Texas-My New Workstation

20190926_192059.jpg

Since I have been back from the Japanese Tea Garden in San Antonio, Texas I have been so stuck on Teahouses. Guys! I have found THE PERFECT workspot for me!

I needed to get back into my blogging, traveling, photography, and work from anywhere flow, and The Teahouse Tapioca & Tea was just the perfect spot to do so!

Screenshot_20190927-155026_Photos.jpg

The Tea House Tapioca & Tea opens every day at 10 am and closes on the weekdays and Sundays at 11:00 pm. On Fridays and Saturdays, they are open until midnight.

There are several Tea House Tapioca & Tea Shops around Houston, Texas (one staying open until midnight on weekdays, and 1 am on weekends) but I chose to work at the Chinatown location-so if I want to wander off, I most likely will find another great Teahouse!

Also, there are a few Asian restaurants nearby, that stay open until 2 am.

As I walked inside, I immediately knew where I wanted to be seated for the evening! In the big red booth!

Working Online

Screenshot_20190927-095923_Photos.jpg

Usually, I blog and edit at home! Big mistake in my world!

Each of my businesses requires a unique environment.

I have asked myself, what is the best way for me to work online?

What environments do I need to be in, so that I can complete certain projects and tasks on time?

I can think of ideas, write out a plan, and even brainstorm, but there are certain things that I cannot complete while at home. Too much distraction!

Screenshot_20191002-091040_Photos.jpg

Some people can get a ton of work done while on an Island. As for me, I should not try to accomplish any heavy tasks on the beach.

I am leaving my home boutique room, headed out to the Teahouse.

I am leaving my home boutique room, headed out to the Teahouse.

I want to get better at time management for each of my businesses, so I have decided to treat my online businesses like I do my Senior Clients; spend a set amount of time with each one, and then, on to the next!

Just like my offline Clients, some businesses need more attention than others, and some are only on call!

20190926_195427.jpg

The Tea House Tapioca & Tea is not free from noise or music.

There are good distractions that you can actually thrive off of, and bad distractions that will frustrate you, throw your focus off, and keep you from completing certain assignments.

While feeling super productive, I continued to work until it was almost time for The Teahouse to close, and was able to complete the task in which I set out to do.

Visiting The Japanese Tea Garden San Antonio, Texas

Screenshot_20190819-193433_Photos.jpg

San Antonio, Texas was the very first place where I resided as an adult, after leaving California. We did not hit it off so well, so I wanted to give the Alamo City another chance to win me over!

After having so much fun experiencing the Riverboat Cruise tour on the Riverwalk, I began to search for more historical sites within the city to better reacquaint myself. The Complete Guide To Go Rio Narrative River Cruise In San Antonio, Texas

What is The Japanese Tea Garden?

processed_20190810_103427.jpg

The Japanese Tea Garden is a part of the San Antonio, Texas Parks Foundation in Brackenridge Park.

Built in 1942 in an abandoned limestone rock quarry, around the time when anti-Japanese sentiment was rising, it was renamed The Chinese Tea Garden to prevent World War II vandalism.

It is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has been recognized by the American Institute of Architects for outstanding architectural designs and achievement.

Visiting The Japanese Tea Garden in San Antonio, Texas

Logopit_1566751366275.jpg

I am a lover of β€œAll things Asian", so I was super excited when I found out about the Japanese Tea Garden!

Although there is a Japanese Tea Garden in Houston, Texas the Japanese Tea Garden in San Antonio, holds the most historic value, and is much more picturesque.

processed_20190810_095213.jpg

When we pulled up, my first thought was, Where is the beautiful garden?

Upon arrival, you are actually outside of the Japanese Tea Garden, and have to walk up a few steps to experience all of it's beauty!

You will however, get a great view of the quarry rock buildings, and the back of the Jingu House Cafe’.

I was informed that these doors are usually open for visitors, but unfortunately they were locked! β€œLet me in!”

Once you make it up the steps, you can either keep walking straight ahead to explore the garden in its entirety, or you can turn to your right, to explore the small houses.

As eager as I was to head straight to the garden, I just could not pass up this piece of history.

The Jingu History

In 1917, San Antonio Parks Commissioner Ray Lambert had plans of designing this area into a water lily garden. Lambert had a Japanese-American friend named Kimi Enzo Jingu with whom he shared his ideas with.

As an artist, and an importer of teas, Jingu helped Lambert execute his plans. In 1926, Lambert made a deal with Mr. Jingu and built him and his family a home so that they can stay and take care of the garden.

When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, the City of San Antonio evicted The Jingu family from the garden.(Source-www.tpr.org)

20190810_105346.jpg

Despite it all, the Jingu family did not hold a grudge and has been invited back to the garden many times.

In 2007, the Jingu House Cafe’ was renamed after them.

After reading a few blogs a while back about Bubble Tea, I just knew I was in for a special treat! I decided to try the Green Tropical Bubble Tea.

My first impression….

Screenshot_20190824-151347_Photos.jpg

YUCK!

Screenshot_20190824-151345_Photos.jpg

I love drinking herbal teas, but for some reason, I was under the impression that Green Tropical Bubble Tea was already flavored! The name is pretty tricky!

Then I thought, it has been a while since I read those blogs-I'm thinking about 3 or 4 years ago??

processed_20190810_113537.jpg

So this is where I left it…Just kidding! I didn't want to just throw it away and waste it!

Fast Fwd: I held onto my Bubble Tea, and brought it back to my parents house with me. While sitting at the dining room table, I had a duh moment! Add sugar!!

Well, they just asked me what flavor do I want, and gave me the tea! Someone should have offered me honey or sugar, or asked if I have ever had Bubble Tea before. You know, give me some hints on which flavor they think is best, like a restaurant would.

All jokes aside, I added sugar to my Bubble Tea, and was able to really enjoy it,…because, yeah Tiff, it is just regular tea with tapioca pearls. So I am now a true fan of Bubble Tea!

I have a very bad sweet tooth, and couldn’t resist their cinnamon-raisin bread pudding. (especially when they offered to put extra icing on top. YUM!) I thought that this would be the perfect combination!

Side Note: I chose Peach Sparkling Sake because of how it was designed. I also kept the bottle for decor.

This was my first time drinking Sparkling Sake, and let me tell you, it was SOOOO GOOD!

Even though it only has 7% alcohol, I did get a buzz-but it was probably because I was drinking it really fast!

(When some of your raisin bread pudding falls to the ground, and you quickly pick it up to eat it…yeah, your pretty buzzed!)

The guys at the counter provided excellent customer service, and informed me that this was a spicy alcoholic beverage.

Important Information About Visiting the Japanese Tea Garden

20190810_102159.jpg

The Japanese Tea Garden is open every day of the week from 7 am-7 pm. The Jingu Cafe' does not open until 10 am, and shuts down at 5 pm. They are also closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas.

We got an early start on a Friday morning and arrived around 9 am. Arriving early ensures a great parking spot and unobstructed photography.

Speaking of photography, camera phones are allowed for picture taking, but you must purchase a photo permit for photoshoots. You can do so online at www.saparksafoundation.org

There were several nooks and crannies within the garden that I did not get to fully experience because I was with family. (They were already leaving me because I was taking too long to embrace just one area! I don’t blame them though, because it was getting hot.)

Next time around, I will plan to be there right when the garden opens, and go alone, so that I can linger and wander a bit more!

Have you ever been to a Japanese Tea Garden?

Jovial, narrative captain's will be there to greet you on a first come, first serve basis. As you board the Riverboat, you can decide whether you want stool, or booth seating.

To enjoy the best views without having to turn your head every which way, my suggestion would be to sit all the way in the back. (especially if you plan on video recording, or taking a lot of pictures.)

The Ultimate Guide to North Beach in Corpus Christi, Texas

My plans to Island hop in Corpus Christi, Texas, came to a halt last year, when Hurricane Harvey hit, destroying many Businesses and Homes on various Islands.

Our Family was very fortunate to have inland Property for shelter with minor damages.

I forfeited my plans, because I wanted to highlight the Islands at its best, instead of what was being seen on the news, during and after the storm..

Read-5 Things I Miss About Island Life in Corpus Christi, Texas

Location

Located on the Gulf of Mexico in South Texas, Corpus Christi boasts over 9 Beaches, and is surrounded by 5 Islands; Padre Island, South Padre Island, Mustang Island, Laguna Madre, and Brazos Island.

The hidden gem lays quietly on the Coast, and is the 8th largest City in Texas! It is only 3 hours away from Houston, and 2 hours away from San Antonio.

History

Corpus Christi's very first Occupants are said to be The Karankawa Indians, who were known to live and travel along The Gulf of Mexico.

According to history, Spanish explorer Alonzo Alvarez de Pineda, discovered a very rich, lavish, and partly Tropical Bay, on the Roman Catholic Feast Day in 1519. Thus, naming it Corpus Christi.

The name Corpus Christi means the body of Christ in Spanish. It is also currently identified as it's County Nueces Bay, and has been nicknamed "The Sparkling City by the Sea," by Locals and Tourist.

There are Islands within Islands here in Nueces Bay that I would like to show you! But first, North Beach!

Right across the Harbor Bridge on the far North end of the City of Corpus Christi, is a very attractive Seashore, named North Beach.

North Beach is where most Tourist come to experience just a taste of Nueces Bay!

These cute Trolley Buses kind of remind me of the San Francisco Cable Cars...minus the Train rails & cables, tinted windows, and wheels!

The cost to ride the Trolley Bus is only 75 cents.

Weather

You may be a little reluctant to plan a Beach vacation during the winter, but remember, this is Texas! Warm weather and humidity allow you to enjoy the Beaches all year round.

Cooler months fluctuate between November and February-and I do stress fluctuate, because one Winter day it may be super cold, and the next day warm!

Also, it may rain and look gloomy in the morning and afternoon, then by 5 pm- beautiful sunshine until sunset!

Overall, the average temperatures on North Beach range between 80 and 90 degrees from April through October, and drops down to 60 and 70 degrees, between November and March.

10 Things American Travelers Can Do to Make More Foreign Friends in the US

This is the post excerpt found in the Options tab of Edit Post. Curabitur blandit tempus porttitor. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.

Logopit_1566055753941.jpg

Having more foreign friends here in the states, will greatly reduce ignorance, fear, culture shock, and unexpected mishaps, while traveling abroad.

We will definitely feel more at ease in a foreign land, when we know the ways and lifestyle of another country before we travel.

You can deeply get to know different tribes, food, people, practices, and languages, by constantly intermingling with foreigners, who have migrated to the United States.

Your new diverse friends can be your best direct travel guide, travel buddy, road map, eyes and ears, educational resource, help, and warning.

And we can be the same to them!

How many foreign friends do you have here in the states? If none, or very little, let's change that!

Here are 10 things that you can do to have more foreign friends in the US, that will greatly benefit you BEFORE you travel abroad.

1. Attend Cultural Events

Screenshot+2019-07-03+at+9.03.26+PM.jpg

You can attend many free cultural events throughout the whole year!

Indulge in different cultural festivals, music, food, and traditions, while getting educated about past and present rituals.

Network and exchange numbers with the event organizers, vendors, and attendees, to see how you can get involved in their culture on a regular and consistent basis.

2. Join a Cultural Community Center

SOURCE: Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center-Houston,Texas.

SOURCE: Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center-Houston,Texas.

Join a variety of Cultural Community Centers!

Most Cultural Community Centers are designed to not only support their own heritage, but to also educate and inform other cultures.

At a Cultural Community Center, you can participate in sports, learn a new language, volunteer, attend workshops, special cultural events and productions, go on cultural tours, and so much more!

As a member, or an ongoing participant at different Cultural Community Centers, you can be sure to make some great friends from all over the world!

3. Join a High School or College Culture Club That is Opposite of Your Own Race

Screenshot+2019-07-03+at+9.03.42+PM.jpg

Join a Culture Club, and get educated about the country that you would love to visit!

Befriend a student who has just migrated to the US, and sincerely get to know them, and their family.

4. Regularly Eat at Authentic Ethnic Restaurants

Jamaican Food (My fave! Curry Chicken, plantains, beans and rice, and cabbage.)

Jamaican Food
(My fave! Curry Chicken, plantains, beans and rice, and cabbage.)

By becoming a regular at an authentic foreign restaurant, (owned by foreigners) you can be sure to meet other regulars, and become great friends with the owner, and staff.

5. Go Out of Your Way to Befriend a Foreigner on the Job

Screenshot+2019-07-03+at+9.03.55+PM.jpg

Many people work with someone who is from a different country everyday, but know nothing about their background or family.

Strike up a conversation with a co-worker who is from a different country, by asking about their family history!

6. Host an Exchange Student

Screenshot+2019-07-03+at+9.04.01+PM.jpg

Hosting an exchange student involves you inviting a student of another country into your home, through a cultural exchange program.

While helping them understand our American language and culture, you also get an up close, and personal look into their life, country, and culture!

7. Befriend the Owner of a Store or Company that you Regularly go to for Business

Screenshot%2B2019-07-03%2Bat%2B9.04.08%2BPM.jpg

Spark up a great conversation with a foreign manager or store owner, by mentioning that you would like to visit and learn the language of their country. Doing so can lead to longtime friendships, and acquaintances.

8. Attend a Cultural Religious Temple

Vietnamese Temple

Vietnamese Temple

My first visit to a Vietnamese Temple was very meaningful to me.

The moment I stepped foot on Temple grounds, I was greeted with smiles, and laughter from women and girls of all ages.

They then led me inside, and introduced me to one of the leaders of the Temple.

Although I missed the service, he willingly gave me a tour of the Temple, teaching me Vietnamese history, culture, and traditions!

9. Chat with your Uber Drivers

Screenshot%25252B2019-07-03%25252Bat%25252B9.04.21%25252BPM.jpg

If you want to hear some cool stories while going to and from your destination, converse with a chatty Uber Driver who is not from the US!

90% of my Uber Drivers are foreigners who seemed to have just moved to the states.

I have heard some very interesting stories about ones life in Cuba, Pakistan, and Nigeria.

Also, it's always fun hearing about their first impression of America!

If they have had a bad experience, maybe you can be the one to change their bad experience into a good one, just through a pleasant conversation.

10. Ask More Questions

Screenshot+2019-07-03+at+9.04.29+PM.jpg

If someone approaches me with an unfamiliar accent, I usually make it a point to ask where they are from.

I always make sure that I am smiling, so that they won't think that I am asking to make fun of them, or think that I have a problem with their culture.

I then go on to ask, "How long have you been in the US?"..."Do you like it here?"
"Is your family here as well?"...

Once they sense that my motives are pure, they are very eager to share!

I understand that everyone might not be as friendly when I go out of the country,

Just as some in the US are not so friendly to outsiders-

Still
, If I had my way, I would have a friend from every single country!

Screenshot%2B2019-07-03%2Bat%2B9.04.37%2BPM.jpg

I used to have next door neighbors from Mexico. Our kids would play together, while we would chat at the dining room table speaking half English, and half Spanish.

They would help me learn more vocabulary words in Spanish, and I would help them with the correct pronunciation of some English words.

Our neighbors often cooked for us, and shared several family and traditional recipes!

I also exchanged languages with another Mexican neighbor while living in California! She would write the Spanish name for flour, sugar, coffee, and rice, on index cards, and tape them to her kitchen canisters, and on several other different items around her home.

She would point to the items, and pronounce them in Spanish, and I would repeat after her, and pronounce the items for her in English.

After my neighbor would repeat after me in English, she would also spell the words out loud in English, and write them all down in her notebook.

Then, we would replace the index cards that she had written in Spanish, with English words.

These are just a couple of examples that I have experienced, interacting and making friends with the most commonly used language!

I have also had a neighbor from Nigeria invite me into her home, to teach me how to make one of West Africa's staple dishes-Jollof Rice!

I can't wait to share more of my cultural insights, experiences, trips, and friends with you!

If you reside in a town with little to no diversity, book a trip to your nearest culturally diverse city or state, get involved in one of the above activities, and make some foreign friends!
