My First International Solo Trip To Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

I just got back from Tanzania last night! My very first international solo trip. I still cannot get the images of the country and the faces of people that I met during my journey out of my head! Though my body is here in the states, my mind is still in Dar es Salaam.

I have so much to write about my 7-day trip, that I decided that I am going to break the posts up into 10-12 chapters/10-12 different blog posts. Here is an outline of what to expect.

1. An explanation of Covid guidelines while traveling from the states through Doha Qatar, and Tanzania.

2. My Flight Experience

I began my journey to Dar es Salaam Tanzania, in Africa, from Little Rock Arkansas. After a 2 hour layover in Dallas, I finally boarded five-star Qatar Airways! Flying with Qatar Airways was an amazing experience from beginning to end.

6. How to get around Dar

One of the most important things you need to figure out is how will you be getting around Dar during your stay. I will be explaining in detail the different modes of transportation and costs.

7. Tanzania Currency

Another important thing that must be understood when traveling into another country is currency. I will be breaking down some Tanzanian prices and converting them to USD.

8. Rural vs. Downtown Dar

I think that it is very important that you visit both the rural and city sides of Tanzania so that you will have a full understanding and overall view of the country instead of half-truths. In this chapter, I will share my experience and thoughts of rural and downtown Dar es Salaam.

9. Tanzania Tribes People and Lifestyle

Snapchat-324587445.jpg

I was told by local Tanzanians that they have over 100 different tribes! I will be sharing my experiences with the locals, which by the way is the number one reason for my trip-not only to visit the country but meet and learn the ways of the people.

10. Tanzania Street Markets

I will describe the street markets I went to, and share tips, including do’s and don’ts when shopping. Also, I will show you how to board the Kigamboni Ferry.

3 Different Types Of African Styles To Add To Your Wardrobe

Like the many people and cultures that reside on the continent, African fashion is colorful, vibrant, and full of life!

Here Are 3 Different Types of African Styles To Add To Your Wardrobe

Screenshot_20210428-145928_Photos~2.jpg

Modern

African designers are getting more and more creative by adding a little modern flair-all while still holding true to their traditional colors and designs!

Screenshot_20210428-142551_Gallery~2.jpg

Traditional

Traditional African clothes are more conservative and are mainly worn to spiritual events, weddings, parties, church, and work. For everyday wear, you will see Africans mixing their traditional attire, with American clothes: such as a traditional African print skirt, with a tank top, or a traditional African print top with jeans.

(Whether there is a special event or not, there are a lot of Africans who still wear their traditional clothing every day.)

To complete the look, traditional African attire is worn with a matching headwrap.

Screenshot_20210428-130751_Gallery~2.jpg

Kaftan

There are so many beautifully designed African Kaftans that can be flaunted practically anywhere!

Most of you are already familiar with Kaftans, but if not, Kaftans are tunic, robe style dresses, that have been worn for centuries within the African and Arab cultures.

Designed to flow freely, Kaftans are now very popular in resort and boho wear.

You can even wear them as bedtime apparel, and loungewear!

Snapchat-1787308949.jpg

Tips for Wearing African Fashion

  • Know Your Measurements

Most traditional African attire is either custom handmade, sewn, or one size. When it comes to African wear, you definitely need to know your measurements!

Depending on a particular fit and style, you may not even mind if it's a little bit large.

  • Care

You should never wash your African garments in the washing machine, neither should you throw them in the dryer-Always wash them by hand in cold or luke-warm water. To dry, hang your African clothes on a clothesline, hanger, or lay them down. To remove wrinkles, iron your African garments on the inside, using a very low setting.

  • Find Your Style

This may come with a little trial and error, but African fashion try-ons are really fun!

Take your time in choosing the perfect African style that fits your body type, so that you can wear your African outfits with confidence and pride.

Snapchat-2133382119.jpg
  • Get Ethnic

You don’t have to be African to rock African fashion.

Haven’t we all worn Made in America clothing? Made in Italy…Made in The UK…Made in India…Made in France…? What about made in Africa?

6 Things I Will Be Focusing On This Week- Business and Lifestyle Updates

The past couple of weeks has been a whirlwind of opportunities for the future of my brand and lifestyle blog!

I have been filled with excitement because the perfect networks keep pouring in. I've been having so many positive back to back happenings, which is motivating and encouraging me to be more persistent with my plans.

I am still making wonderful connections with like-minded brands, and am in the process of selecting new and curated collections and products for my store.

As I continue to clear out the clutter of the old e-mails, that are no longer serving me, I am receiving new refreshing, unexpected e-mails gifting me with great news!

6 Things I Will Be Focusing on This Week- Business and Lifestyle Update

Screenshot_20201026-152127_Chrome+(1).jpg
  1. It's about that time again! Apparel Textile Trade Show Phase 2

Apparel Textile Sourcing is having a week-long interactive creative virtual trade show for buyers, sellers, boutique & store owners, and e-commerce merchants. Also if you are looking to start your own store whether online or offline and would like to source internationally, I believe that it would be very beneficial for you to attend this high-tech virtual trade show.

Starts tomorrow!

UPDATE-Register below to attend future Apparel Textile Sourcing Events which are held twice a year

2. Life lessons I'm taking with me through this week and beyond

Last week, I had lunch with an old friend of mine, whom I had not seen in 8 years. I was so proud and highly impressed with his progress in life, career, business, and investments. In listening to him talk, I was reminded of what I needed to get to the next level. Extreme focus, discipline, self-control, patience, and perseverance.

Lesson learned from our lunch meeting-Be careful about who and what you invest in. Who you invest in is just as important as what you invest in. Tiffany Tene'

Are you investing your time and money in the right person/ people?

To add to that, in talking with my dad about life in general, (imma Daddy's girl) he says, it's not always about who or what you want, it's about who and what you need! Thank you, Daddy! Lesson learned✔

Screenshot_20201110-181114_Photos (1).jpg

3. Marketing Strategies

Though I get marketing strategies sent to me via e-mail and webinars, I will be taking some social media marketing courses.

Also going to be reading some ‘Think with Google' articles!

The best thing for me to do right now as a new lifestyle content creator is to continue to consistently promote and put out fresh new content.

I'm still batching blog content and Pinterest pins at the same time! Yikes! It has put me a bit behind but in the long run, it will flow nicely.

20201104_220939 (1).jpg

4. In My Posh Resale Shop-Tene's Armoire

As a semi-seasoned seller, I will once again provide fresh new listings in my store on a daily, and share with my customers and followers as often as possible.

5. Health and Wellness

After providing our guinea pig with fresh hay, I had an allergy flare! So I ordered some Manuka honey for cough throat and allergies. Manuka honey is made in Australia and New Zealand and is known to be the best in the world. I’ve had it before, but not with the herbal infusions. It’s expected arrival is this week- Can't wait to get it! Get ready for a review, if I love!

Screenshot_20201115-155439_Photos.jpg

Coffee Tea Rotation

Time to rotate back to tea 3 times a day…4. I just finished reading an Asian blog post suggesting to increase your herbal tea intake (green tea would be ideal) from 3 times a day to 4, due to covid.

Still not a morning person… BUT,

For the past 4 days, I've been waking up at 7:16 am on the dot!🤔If this continues, I guess I'll be forced to accept it as my new schedule…??😒

Seriously, I haven’t even been resisting this early morning universal wake me up because I now have additional tasks and assignments. So some days, I really do have to get up early.

6. Planning for 2021

I will be doing more preparations this week for my first international trip. I'm sooooo excited! I already have chosen the outfits that I am going to wear, I just need to figure out shoes.

I have finally decided where I will stay and will find 2nd and 3rd lodging options for back up.

New Pages

I've added a few new pages to my website! Go check out the bottom of my website menu bar.

One of the pages that I added is some online learning courses. I will be adding more courses as I see fit.

I love online courses!

While on the Islands in Corpus Christi, Texas I took several online courses to upgrade and enhance my skills.

I'm about to go on another learning spree😄

What are your business plans this week?

Atlas Coffee Review-I Took A Virtual Trip To Brazil and Transformed My Daily Coffee Routine Into A Fun Adventure

I am currently sitting blissfully outside of a popular coffee shop in Rio de Janeiro, admiring the beautiful city, enjoying the Portuguese language, and soaking up the rich Brazilian culture.

After another slow and mellow hour has passed, I’m eager to scout things out and mingle with the locals!

With the smell of coffee still lingering in the air and on my clothes, I decide to walk the streets of Brazil.

Immediately swept away by the sounds of Brazilian music, I fall into a trance, watching all of the colorful skirts whirling around in the streets. Exotic Brazilian women are cheerfully laughing-happily dancing with their partners!

Sensing my excitement, and interest, they beckon me to come and join them.

Mingling with the locals bring me joy!

photo-1504609813442-a8924e83f76e.jpeg

Hesitant to leave, but realizing that I have much more to discover, I graciously thanked all of the dancers for an unforgettable time, gave goodbye hugs, and politely make my way down an unknown street.

Navigating around the city, I encounter friendly Brazilians who are more than willing to go above and beyond to accommodate me.

After spending some time exploring, I find my way back to the coffee shop!

Travel Brazil

Upon ordering another cup of coffee with pastel, I meet some Expats who are from the States. Coffee Connoisseurs, (Or shall I say, conocedor?) who have traveled around the world, tending the best coffee!

Here in Brazil, the two Coffee Connoisseurs have found a particular type of coffee that has never been introduced to the USA.

This definitely piqued my interest, as I am a coffee addict!

After exchanging information, and addresses, the Coffee Connoisseurs promise to send me a package of this new Brazilian coffee to experience.

I Can’t wait!

I am now being transported back to the States🧘🏽‍♀️

While en route, my new coffee travel experts are with me every step of the way!

My Brazilian Coffee Has Arrived!

I received my Brazilian coffee in lightning fast time, from Atlas Coffee Club.

The smell of this coffee is intoxicating! OMG!

Even my 7 and 11-year-old boys ran in the kitchen!“Mommy, what's that smell?”

“Doesn't it smell good?”I asked. “Yes!” They said lingering around excitedly as if they were going to actually get to taste a cup of coffee.

Side Note: I make Colombian coffee all of the time. I also am always trying out all sorts of new coffee-so that just goes to show that there is a very distinct difference in this Brazilian coffee!

My Brazilian Post Card

My Brazilian Post Card

How I Brew

While living on the Islands in Corpus Christi, Texas, I tossed my coffee pot out after trying the drip method for the first time.

When using the drip method, the taste of coffee is definitely by far wayyyy more authentic and fresh!

The special coffee card, (which is included in my package) says that the best way to brew this particular Brazilian coffee is by using a Chemex.

If you are new to the coffee scene, a Chemex is a manual pour-over style glass coffee maker. It is basically the same brewing method as to how I brew, but with clear glass.

20201028_142713.jpg
processed_20201028_125712.jpg
processed_20201028_125651.jpg

After slowly pouring 1 cup of hot water into 2 coffee filters filled with 2 tablesoons of ground coffee, I carefully gather and hold the top four corners of the filter with my finger tips. (I use 2 coffee filters together, stacked on top of each other, for extra support.) Raising the coffee filter 7-8 inches from the bottom of the cup, I allow the coffee to drip inside of my cup. In doing this, you must take your time, and be extra careful because the filter is extremely hot. You can either let the hot water sit in the filter for a short bit, or just stick with the chemex if you are extra sensitive to heat.

Also, you can transfer your freshly made drip coffee into another cup if you like.

Drinking From The Perfect Color Coffee Cup

Have you heard the saying that the color of your coffee cup makes a difference in the way it taste?

Well, I have tried that theory, and found it to be true!

I wanted to get the best taste out of my new Brazilian coffee, so everyday this week, I've been drinking from a variety of coffee and glass cups.

20201028_133019.jpg

Medium Roast

processed_20201028_125235.jpg

I am a dark roast girl but decided to try medium roast.

I usually need a strong bold robust cup of coffee with just a little sugar, milk, or creamer…Sometimes I prefer my coffee with no milk at all.

The Taste of Brazilian Coffee

processed_20201028_130427.jpg

This was my very first time tasting Brazilian coffee!

The flavor is light and soft with sweet fruity notes. I must say that out of all of the coffee that I have ever tried, none has ever been this naturally sweet! You really don’t need to add that much milk or sugar-Being that this Brazilian coffee is so light, you may prefer it straight.

In experimenting with the taste that suits me the best, I scooped out 1 1/4 tablespoons of sugar.

When drinking in mugs, I enjoyed my Brazilian coffee the best warm or cold brew, versus scorching hot like I am used to.

20201106_132254.jpg

Currently, I am having the best hot Brazilian coffee taste while drinking from a small espresso cup!

Surprisingly, these cute espresso cups are providing me with the ultimate Brazilian coffee experience so far!

Because Brazilian coffee is naturally soft and sweet, you can enjoy drinking it throughout the day! It also serves as a good nightcap.

11 Ethical Handwoven Straw Bags That You Need To Start Carrying All Year Round

Formally known as “beach” straw bags, these handwoven straw purses, are tired of being tucked away at the end of every summer!

They are now demanding to be seen and heard all year round!

I used to always see a bunch of straw totes while shopping for inventory, at the beginning of my online reselling journey. But it seemed as if they weren’t getting that much attention at the time.

I have sold a couple of straw bags at discounted prices in my Poshmark Store last year, and another just a couple of weeks ago on Mercari.

Ten Thousand Villages

Ten Thousand Villages was founded by Edna Ruth Byner, A wife, and mother from Akron, Ohio. While visiting Puerto Rico with her husband in 1946, Edna met a few women who were struggling to put food on the table for their children. After seeing a handful of pieces of their fine embroidery, Ruth was moved to bring some of them back to her home town to sell.

Edna Ruth Byner began sharing the stories of the Women Makers to her friends and neighbors, explaining how each purchase helps The Women, their Family, and their Community, gain economic independence.

Now Ten Thousand Villages practices Fair Trade with 30 developing Countries!

What I especially like about this Company, is that via video, pictures, blogs, and written stories, you get to see, and hear from the actual Makers. Ten Thousand Villages takes you behind the scenes of every single country that they have partnered with, allowing you to watch the Makers in action.

You will feel like you are truly a part of The Villages!

Screenshot_20200827-220931_Chrome.jpg

Fair Trade

Fair trade proves that greater justice in world trade is possible. It highlights the need for change in the rules and practice of conventional trade and shows how a successful business can also put people first. It is a tangible contribution to the fight against poverty, climate change and economic crisis.

—World Fair Trade Organization

Ten Thousand Villages is the epitome of what fair trade should look like. Their business model is one that a start-up fair trade company would want to readily adopt. Simply put, they first ask the Makers what would be a sufficient amount of pay, then both parties come up with a fair agreement. Next, Ten Thousand Villages pay the Makers FIRST (50% of the agreed price), before products are shipped, to protect Makers from exploitative loans.

I’ve always had a heart for fair trade and indigenous cultures, so this makes me smile!

2 Of The Best African Owned Luxury Lingerie Brands That Will Leave You Speechless

………

Screenshot_20200807-211108_Chrome.jpg

As you all know, I have been on the hunt for unique, hard to find, lingerie designs.

Ladies, it's been tough!

After selling a bunch of lingerie in my Poshmark Store, as well as posting my series of Friday's at Frederick's here on my blog, I began to wonder if there were any African lingerie Designers.

(I often play around with the thought of designing my own lingerie, seeing how much I love it so!)

There has been a ton of sexy African print swimwear out for some time now-but only a handful of black, African owned lingerie lines.

However,

These two amazing luxurious brands combined, can actually make up for the lack of African owned, and uniquely designed lingerie businesses.

Here Are 2 of the Best African Owned Luxury Lingerie Brands That Will Leave You Speechless!

Boring Lingerie

Remember what I have been saying about simple lingerie on Friday’s at Frederick’s? Krystle feels the same way! She says this in an interview with Alexandra Spirer,

“One day, I was shopping for lingerie online and realized that I was so bored. So, I asked myself what made it so uninspiring. All of the models and the underwear looked the same — bland and boring.

10 Things I'm Doing Right Now To Prepare For International Living

If you check out my about me page under what to expect from my blog, I stated that I will be sharing my plans for international travel. Around this time last year, while I was writing that, most of my preparations were in my head.

Now, as my living situation, plans for the future, and short and long term goals have changed, I am taking action, and will be relocating within the next few months.

I am a firm believer of planning out as much as you can, doing extensive research, and moving with a specific mission or purpose.

I’m totally against going out on a whim, with very little money, to move anywhere, nationally or internationally. That will not work for me!

I know that even with the most meticulous plans, things can, and will change.

But again, I say if you have back up plans, ( My abcdef and g plans, have never failed me) 9 times out of 10, unexpected mishaps, and expenses can be avoided, or may not set you back as far.

10 Things I’m Doing Right Now To Prepare For International Living

Screenshot_20200712-200132_Photos.jpg

1. Moving to a Less Expensive City and State

Since moving from Northern California while in my 20’s, Houston, Texas has always been my home base. I love it here! But it’s time to go.

Houston, you have been sooo good to me, and I thank you. I will be back to visit, but I must move on for good now.

Yes, I must move on to another city and state, where my expenses will be lower so that I can save more, and have the freedom to move about with fewer restrictions.

In my opinion, this is the best way to cut back on major expenses, while on your way towards traveling the world or moving internationally.

processed_20200713_170256.jpg

2. Budgeting Every. Single. Penny.

Seriously!

My personal spending is wayyyy out of control! And this is because I have gotten too comfortable….again!

When I looked at how much I could have saved (instead of splurging) just within the past 4 months, I had to put myself on a time out!

While I am proud of myself for keeping up with my personal expenses, as far as writing them down, and keeping receipts-so I at least know where my money is going, I definitely need to get rid of my impulse spending.

I am not only budgeting every single penny for my out of state move, but I also have a budget for my international travels as well.

I know exactly how much I will need to maintain my international lifestyle for 3, 6, and 12 months.

20200715_132330.jpg

3. Meditation Visualization and Manifestation

Manifestation is speaking and acting as if you already have it.

(Without doubting, because doubting ruins manifestation.)

Throughout the day, I am constantly speaking my travel plans into existence. I am not only speaking of my plans out loud but talking in my head as if it is already so.

I see myself at certain locations, (visualizing) being very specific about the region and area in which I plan to travel and live.

I am constantly looking at pictures, and images of my exact REALITY location!

I don’t want to write, or say dream location, because the word dream sounds so far away, or as if it will never happen.

The video below isn’t in my top 5, because I just discovered Mei-lan a couple of months ago. I listen to this almost every night, and feel as if I am floating.

4. Networking

I was raised in Northern California, and have always been a multi-cultured type gal-constantly hanging out and making friends with people from different countries.

I have more international friends than I do Americans! Lol!

Soooo, I have made some new contacts and friends in the country in which I will be moving to-and I have long-time friends from the countries surrounding areas.

I am still observing certain groups, and location-independent businesses, so that I can connect with the right people, who have my same vibe, mindset, and outlook on life.

5. Research

To be honest, I have been around the people and researching the continent in which I will be visiting, and then moving to for 20 years!

As you already know, the world is constantly changing and will continue to change.

I can never learn too much, so I am still researching different cultures, governments, land, houses, presidents, cost of living, and lifestyles.

On each short trip that I take locally, I always research the cost of living, see what the jobs and businesses are like, and check on the rent and buying prices for apartments and homes.

I especially take note of the disposition of the people, and customer service-are they friendly? Family-oriented? Is this a seemingly happy community?

Other questions I ask myself-

Would this be a good fit for my kids? How would I get around? How much is transportation? Is it best to get around by car, bus, taxi, or uber?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of living, relocating, and traveling to my destination country, or a certain side of town, versus living in its surrounding areas/countries?

6. Learning New Languages

How is it that my international friends know the English language so well, but I haven’t even taken the time to consistently learn their language?

So sad!

I should be fluent in many languages! I start off learning, then “get busy” and stop.

Now, I have to learn!

I am making it a habit to learn to read, write, and speak the languages of my friends, every time we meet-up, talk, or text.

7. Explaining The Moving Process To My Children

My kids are troopers! They all adjust to change quite well.

My oldest does not know how serious I am about my long-term destination as of yet. I am waiting to tell them in a special family meeting that I will be holding.

My long term location just got specific last month, and will greatly benefit my older and younger children, grandchildren, and my future grandchildren, whether they choose to stay or visit.

However, I am sure that they will not be too surprised-I have mentioned it to them quite a few times throughout the years.

8. Watching YouTube Videos

I have been getting a lot of great information concerning international travels on YouTube.

For the past 3 months, I have been binge-watching specific videos geared towards my destination.

(I’ve been binge-watching to the point where it is not exactly healthy on my eyes!)

One night, I stayed up until 4 am, watching videos, and taking notes. It was totally worth it!

9. Pinterest Pins

Screenshot_20200713-165211_Pinterest.jpg

Pinterest is my new obsession!

I am pinning everything that has to do with traveling- from Africa to Asia, USA, Paris, and Island excursions.

While reading a lot of blogs about my future destinations, I take handwritten notes.

I can get pretty caught up on Pinterest too!

But again, I am seriously talking about my future here, so it is well worth the time!

10. Listening To Music From a Specific Country

I am listening to music that is from my reality destination. I’m no stranger to it, but hooked on it now, more than ever!

The rhythms, and languages, always takes me to that place, lifts my mood, and makes me even more excited about my trips!

Listening to music from a specific destination in which you want to live or visit, can be used for manifestation and visualisation too.

Example: I used music to take us back to Houston, Texas while we were living on the Corpus Christi Islands.

One day, I started to feel the energy of the city of Houston really strong. I then began to get flashbacks.

I felt so excited, seeing the faces of old friends, swimming around in my head. I found myself reminiscing about where I used to go, and what I used to do…

While searching online, I discovered that I could live stream both of the Houston radio stations that I used to always listen to. Why did I do this?

It was torture!

I began missing Houston even more. I felt that I was actually there. I said out loud, “I’m ready to go back to Houston!”

While dancing to, and enjoying some familiar tunes, my journey from the first day that I moved to Houston, until I left, was slowly being played before my eyes.

For 3 or 4 consecutive weekends, I listened to two of my favorite radio stations in “H-Town”.

Okay, I thought, I got my little “Houston Fix”. I’m satisfied.

I moved out of that phase, and sort of forgot about it.

A few months later, without even trying, we found ourselves living back in Houston, Texas.

*Sources Of Income

What is my mission for my destination countries? What would I like to accomplish there? Who, what, when, and where do I want to invest? How will I continue to create multiple streams of income overseas?

I feel that it is crucial to keep a list of all of my business skills, trade, and talents that would be of good use in my near future destination countries.

Sacrifice

There are a lot of things that I am willing to sacrifice in order to get to my reality destinations!

Should I just homeschool my kids, and call it a day?

For the past 5 years, I have been in the position where I do not have to work in, or out of the home-or even start new businesses.

But I do anyways, because I feel that would be very unwise of me not to-for I have a greater vision that I just can't sit on, or ignore.

Top 10 Places To Immigrate To Where Racism is Not A Big Issue

The foundation of The United States of America has been built on racism and oppression.

We can get mad, cry, sign petitions, riot, loot, tell everyone to speak out, and continue to say that something needs to be, or is going to be done.

But then what?

The constant killing of unarmed African Americans continues.

It keeps happening over, and over, and over, and over again. It hasn't stopped, and it won't stop.

It’s hard to shake a strong foundation.

After years of struggling and fighting for certain types of freedom that you should already have, sometimes it's best to immigrate to a country, where you will be celebrated and accepted.

world-3000240__480.jpg

Here are the top 10 places to Immigrate to where racism is not a big issue

Side Note: Top 8 places are in no particular order.

Something important to remember: The way in which most foreigners treat you here in the states, is usually the ways of their cultural upbringing, on how they should treat others, unless they have been taken advantage of.

  1. Japan

Over the past 5 years, there has been quite a surge of African Americans migrating and starting businesses in Japan.

Unbeknownst to me, some African Americans had already been there for over 20 years.

2. The Philippines

Filipino people are said to be the most friendliest people on earth! They are huge givers, and from my experience, very loyal friends.

My cousin and I grew up with many Filipino friends in Northern, California. My cousin had even more Filipino friends than I. She speaks fluently in Tagalog, and has learned how to make Lumpia very well!

Her mother whom is my Aunt, still has close business ties with the Filipino community in her area.

3. Fiji

When I was younger, my mom had a best friend who was from Fiji. We would often go to her house, and she would come to visit us as well.

Every Friday, she would cook lamb curry for my mom. I remember that my mom used to try to get me to eat it, but as a pre-teen, I did not like the smell.

I am now in love with Chicken and Lamb Curry! Chicken Curry is one of my go to meals.

Our family spent a lot of time around my mother’s best friend, and her family of over 8 siblings.

People from Fiji are also said to be the most friendliest people on earth!

4. Canada

Another one of my mom's best friend is from Canada. She was like a big sister to my mother, and took very good care of her when my step-dad past away.

I had a Canadian couple who were Clients of mine, paying me very very well, I must say.

They had multiple businesses, and were always very professional.

Canadians are known to be friendly, respectful, organized, non-messy business minded people, with a low tolerance for lawbreakers.

5. Africa

Africa is huge! The beautiful Continent boasts 54 different countries. I am proud to have close friendships with Nigerians, Cameroons, and Kenyans, while living in Houston.

Once they know you are sincere, they will treat you like family, and go out of their way to help you when needed.

Every country and culture in Africa is unique, and has different beliefs, and traditions.

6. Central and South America

Yes, I know, it’s still a part of America, but very friendly non-racist people. My friends and co-workers from Columbia, Honduras, and El Salvador, always greet me with a kiss.

7. Cuba

Cubans are known to be happy whether they are rich or poor. Their culture is their prosperity! In the words of a Cuban man I ran into,

“In my country, we are very happy.. even if we have no money. Here in America, it’s go-go-go..money-money-money-and faces like this-(he made a tight serious face.)

8. Mexico

I’ve always seem to have had a ton of neighbors from Mexico in my adult years! They have shared traditional recipes, and have helped me to speak Spanish more fluently.

9. Almost Anywhere in Asia

Asians are all about respect. For the most part, they keep to themselves. Respect them, they will respect you. Don't bother them, and they won't bother you. The end. Lol

10. France

France won me over by accepting my favorite legendary entertainer Josephine Baker!

Research!

If you are drawn to your ancestral roots, or you feel drawn to a particular culture other than your own, it would be wise to immerse yourself in their community here in the States.

We live in a big big world with many systems that differ from the United States of America.

Now may be the best time to go out and explore which one fits you and your family.

Are there any other African American friendly continents and countries that you would like to add to the list?

When Your Ancestors Call, You Answer!

processed_20191130_102527.jpg

Unless you want to miss out on opportunities to receive special, sensitive, and timely messages and blessings for your life…

Screenshot_20191207-140647_Photos.jpg

Saturday morning, the sounds of Native American chanting LITERALLY woke me up out of my sleep! I thought that I was dreaming! I looked out of my window several times to see if I could find out where it was coming from.

I could see nothing…only hear…

It was as if my Ancestors were calling me. I immediately got dressed, went outside, and tried to follow the chants…In the woods…

processed_image.jpg

As I continue to embark on my new spiritual journey, I am becoming less hesitant.

(I know that my Ancestors knew how much I wanted to closely reconnect with them.)

They have been watching me meditate, while listening to their drumming, they have heard my calls, and now have come close to me, making sure that I know, that they are aware of my thoughts.

I am not new to spiritual experiences, for I have had many since I was a little girl. I am evolving, and I like it. I like change.

In order for you to move on to the next level in life, you must go through a series of tests.

Everyone's test is different and unique, because we are not all headed in the same direction.

We all have different assignments

processed_20191130_102855.jpg

I had been in this field before, but never went beyond the trees.

I always wondered what was in between, and behind the tall trees in the woods.

Houston is known for it’s many Bayou’s, so I was almost positive that there was a body of water somewhere!

I left my home without a second thought, and circled around the gate for a while to listen to the chants.

I can't go back inside! I don't want to go back!

I had to find out where the chants were coming from… Hopefully, I can join the ceremony!

Screenshot_20191203-150535_Photos.jpg

I found myself walking out the gate, and headed for the woods. I was being led by Spirit.

The chants began to die down a little...

Oh no! I missed it!..They're gone now!

Then, there He was again…CHIEF!

Loud as ever! The same male voice that woke me up out of my sleep!

Screenshot_20191203-150435_Photos.jpg

I stop to look up and around me, as I am now out of sight to anyone who may have seen me wander off into the woods.

Looking up at the tall trees, and then down at all of the leaves that were falling off it's branches, I listen to the sounds of the whistling wind.

It was a beautiful breezy morning. The last day of November. The last day of Native American Heritage Month.

The call was very abrupt, and unexpected, for they heard my thoughts.

I am cautious, but unafraid, because I know that they would not have called me out into danger.

Screenshot_20191203-150627_Photos.jpg

I turn around to look behind me, to my left, and then to my right. My senses are wide open, and I am caught up in the moment, as the chanting continues.

I have to get closer!

I see some barbed wire that appears to have been pushed all the way down to the ground, and others, between trees that were very low.

Oh! I have to get closer!

Screenshot_20191203-150459_Photos.jpg

Maybe I can just go through the opening of the barbed wire, climb up the tree, and see if I can see them!

But then I noticed that the trees on the other side of the woods, would obstruct any and everything that I was trying to view.

In order for me to get closer, I had to go deep into woods. That was definitely where the chants were coming from.

VideoCapture_20191130-125744.jpg

After getting through the barbed wire, I see a big lot of private property surrounded by more barbed wire.

Looking to my left, there was a long straight path, and in front of me, was the woods that I needed to go into, in order to get closer to the chants.

Screenshot_20191203-150641_Photos.jpg

In front of the private property, (or in the back) was a side Trail.

I can use this side Trail to go directly into the woods!

Screenshot_20191203-150515_Photos.jpg

After walking on the side of the Trail, I then had to practically crawl under a bunch of branches, and leap over a few logs.

Screenshot_20191203-151118_Photos.jpg
Screenshot_20191203-151114_Photos.jpg

I was in!

All of a sudden, I felt a huge adrenaline rush!

Trampling through the woods, I was invisible! One with Nature.

Screenshot_20191203-150751_Photos.jpg

As the chanting became more clear, I felt a strengthening force within my body.

I then stopped to tie my braids in 2.

I grabbed my Wolf Tooth necklace, put it to my lips, kissed it, and held onto it tight.

20191130_104748.jpg

I made it! I found it!.. I found them!

Screenshot_20191203-151121_Photos.jpg

Behind these trees, was an opening to a trucking company of some sort.

Beside the trucking company, was the building where the chantings were coming from. Most likely, the gathering was being held outside of this building.

Screenshot_20191203-151112_Photos.jpg

My intuition told me to stay put. Don't go any further. You are right where you need to be. And in due time, you will join a Tribal gathering. But right now, enjoy this moment from right here…Listen!

Why I'm Never Celebrating Thanksgiving Ever Again!

After doing some extended research, reading, and viewing several documentaries, I have decided that I will no longer be participating in what we call Thanksgiving.

On this particular day, I will no longer participate in family Thanksgiving gatherings...

On this day, I will no longer uphold the traditional teachings and meaning of Thanksgiving…

Most people just follow along, close their eyes, and never question, read, or research anything further than what is presented to them.Tiffany Tene’

My true spiritual awakening in 2015, caused me to not only question everything that I had been taught,(because I have questioned before) but actually take the necessary steps that I personally need to take, while on my journey, to get rid of certain questionable habits and beliefs, that have been deeply ingrained within me.

Looking back over the past few years, I had really gotten tired of doing the same thing every Thanksgiving!

In the medical field, people always call off, and senior facilities are always extremely short on Holidays.

After so many years of getting called in on my off holidays, I started to actually look forward to making extra money, by working double and overnight shifts, during the Holidays.

When I started my small private senior care business, I used to always love assisting clients on Thanksgiving.

Also, in the past, my immediate family and I started to experiment, by eating non-traditional meals on Thanksgiving.

We began to try and make it a habit to feel blessed and thankful every single day.

So, I have already been getting prepared to cut the traditional story and ways of Thanksgiving completely off, but I guess at the time, I couldn’t quite understand the nagging feeling of not wanting to celebrate Thanksgiving anymore.

I am one who can talk about the injustice of a people without feeling or showing hatred for a certain race, because I understand that it was not the whole entire race that individually lied, betrayed, cheated, stole, and murdered the original settlers of the Unites States.

I am not against Europeans, as I was raised in a predominantly caucasian neighborhood.

I have never experienced racial discrimination of any kind.

All of my European co-workers, friends, managers, and clients have always treated me as an equal, and have highly respected me as a business owner.

In my own personal life and experiences, my race has never been an issue.

But as far as historic facts are concerned, I personally feel as if I am betraying my Native American brothers, sisters, and family, if I know that something in their history has been twisted, and misleading.

Some may say and think that was a long time ago, let's just move on, “carry on now,” and forget about it.

History molds and shapes the future. It cannot be forgotten. Without understanding the past of any nation or tribe, we are lost.

While it is never healthy to constantly live and dwell in a sorrowful past, there are ways in which we can show respect.

What I will be doing on this day, and what you can also do in remembrance of the slaughtering of Native American Tribes:

  1. I will bring out all of my Native American artifacts, including clothing, dolls, dream catchers, and feathers.

  2. Burn Incense.

Sage would be ideal, but I just made this decision, so I am using what I have. Sandalwood.

  3. Meditate and listen to Native American tribal music.

I have been doing this on a regular for a while now, but I imagine my mediation will be stronger, as I remember the lost and often forgotten tribes.

  4. Gather around or dance by a fire.

Native Americans always seemed to gather by night fire, after a battle had been won, or while making crucial decisions.

  5. Watch a Native American Documentary.

There are many great Native American Documentaries on PBS.org.

  6. Watch a Native American classic or contemporary movie.

I just watched Dances with Wolves again. I love this movie! Lakota Woman is also good.

  7. Eat a Native American Meal.

Native American staples are corn, beans, deer meat, cornbread, squash, pumpkin, wild rice, berries, and buffalo stew.

  8. Place a picture of my great great grandmother by a candle.

My dad always tells me that in our family, the Cherokee women were just as strong as the Cherokee men, and that I have certain ways like my great grandmother.

  9. Think of how I can live a more sustainable and natural life.

Native Americans are experts when it comes to preserving and living off the land.

  10. Smoke a pipe!

Smoke a cigar, if you can't get a hold of a pipe!

  11. Eat nothing.

Fast in remembrance of all of the slain Native American Tribes.

  12. Do nothing as if it is a normal day.

Eat a normal meal, or dine out.

  13. Support a Native American tribe by purchasing an authentic piece of jewelry, art, or artifact-or by visiting a Native American supported business.

  14. Read books and articles written by Native Americans.

Read, and see things from the eyes of many different Native American tribes and leaders.

I met a 100% Apache Indian in Corpus Christi, Texas who worked at a store I used to always go in.

One day, as I was checking my items out, he said, “Every time you walk into the store, you remind me of my sister. You look just like her.”

Run-ins like this, in my eyes are not coincidental.

It's my ancestors letting me know that they are still with me.

Did you know that November is Native American Heritage Month?
